Meditate your way to connecting with your Life's Purpose

In today’s hectic world, learning to meditate can bring a sense of calm and inner satisfaction. The practice of meditation is a gateway into your inner consciousness, resulting in an enhanced awareness of your own existence and your overall relationship to the cosmos.

Whether you are looking to answer the age-old question, “Who am I and why am I here?” or simply to implement simple relaxation techniques meditation may just be the answer for you.
Although there are hundreds of established techniques how to meditate is really up to the individual. You can pick and choose amongst different schools of thought and find a technique that best suits your personality. However, although meditation has many different cultural contexts, there are certain general facets which transcend the bounds of any one specific culture.
According to Eastern philosophy, to meditate means to think on the eternal, or rather to expand your consciousness until you are at one with the cosmos as a whole. Transcendental emotions like grief, euphoria or even love can fade away, but the universe is forever. Eventually, with practice, learning to meditate can bring you in closer attunement with the very root and purpose of existence itself.

Even if you are not interested in the metaphysical implications of meditation, meditating has undeniable health benefits. Learning to meditate can have positive effects on stress induced illness such as heart disease and high blood pressure. In conjunction with traditional Western approaches to medicine, meditation can target the root causes behind stress-based conditions by calming and clearing the mind.

There are many relaxation techniques meditation incorporates. You can meditate sitting, standing or lying down, in a chair or on the floor. Learning how to meditate is not difficult. There are numerous programs online that can teach you the basics and help to get you started. These programs can guide you each step of the meditation process, provide tips on appropriate posture and teach you how to create the ideal setting for your meditation session.

Classic sitting meditation is one approach. All you need to do is sit on the floor in a comfortable position in a bright but quiet room. The purpose of meditation is not to fall asleep, but to relax and let go of everyday stress. As you become more skilled, you will begin to experience a greater sense of clarity and self observation. Next, breathe deeply and find a focal point or image to hold in your mind. This action will clear the mind and any lingering anxiety or worry.

With commitment and dedication, the calm and peacefulness that you experience upon learning to meditate will carry over to your everyday actions. More quickly than you can imagine, you will come to crave the sense of cleansing and tranquility that meditation can impart. Once you begin the practice, meditation will quickly become an intrinsic part of your daily routine.

Mindfully,

Making meditation part of your everyday life

Meditation in Daily Life...

How can we turn the mundane chores of our daily lives into a form of meditation and be uplifted?

~Through practicing "mindfulness" -by focusing all our thoughts on what we are doing.

We can also experience a sense of spiritual enlightenment/uplift from appreciating the beauty of everything around us- as well as use meditative practices when trying to gage and understand our emotions, and we can introduce meditation techniques (such as mindfulness) into the ways in which we relate to others.

Here are a few ways in which we can bring meditation into the many aspects of our day-to-day lives:

~ Focus your mind and body completely on what you are doing at this moment- letting any distractions simply drift on by.

~ Live in the present moment as much as you can.

~ Try to see the beauty and worth in everything (and everyone) around you, as well as in everything you do- no matter how mundane.

~ Learn and try to use your "senses" to the full.

~ Develop self-awareness, and work with the connection between your emotional and physical self - noticing how certain breathing practices and posture/positions affect how you're feeling.

~ An everyday activity, such as eating - again, by taking the time to really be aware of and focus on your food and eating it- is a form of meditation that can make it more enjoyable and better on the digestive system!

So what is mindfulness?

I am glad you asked.

Mindfulness is one of the golden keys to unlocking your best life.

Mindfulness is necessary to help you connect more fully with your life's purpose.

Mindfulness is an effective way to reduce stress, increase self-awareness, enhance emotional intelligence, and undermine AUTOMATIC and REPETITIVE destructive thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Mindfulness has only recently been embraced in the Western world, however it is an ancient practice found in a wide range of Eastern philosophies, including Buddhism, Taoism and Yoga. Mindfulness involves consciously bringing awareness to your here-and-now experience with openness, interest, and receptiveness. Jon Kabat-Zinn, a world authority on the use of mindfulness training in the management of medical problems, defines it as: "Paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally."

Mindfulness is about waking up, connecting with ourselves, and appreciating the fullness of each moment of life. Kabat-Zinn further describes mindfulness as, "The art of conscious living." It is a simple, yet profound way to enhance your psychological and emotional resilience, and increase your life satisfaction.

If you're Happy and You know it clap your hands..

I can't hear you!

I found happiness quotes and wanted to share them with you:

"All good men and women are happy when they choose to be their own authors. Those who choose to have others edit their pathways, must live on the edge of another man's sword."
-- Julie Arabi

"Never continue in a job you don't enjoy. If you're happy in what you're doing, you'll like yourself, you'll have inner peace. And if you have that, along with physical health, you will have had more success than you could possibly have imagined."

-- Rodan of Alexandria

Did any phrase from the above quotes light up your heart?
Or did they feel like a far away dream meant for anyone but you?

Bottom Line: If you want more joy, happiness, vitality, and inner peace

1. Be Authentic
2. March to the beat of your own drum
3. Discover a career you truly enjoy

Looks easy doesn't it.

How many of us infuse each quality in our day to day affairs?

I'm guessing not many at all...

According to Steven Covey from the Book the 8th Habit, In a poll
of over 23,000 employees from a variety of corporations
only 20% trusted the companies they worked for.

Fellow Blogger at Slow Leadership says this:

"Employees who feel impotent and devalued are quickly alienated from the organization of which they’re a part. No amount of fine words about “people are our greatest asset” will change this. Faced with a choice between believing what they hear or what they experience, people trust their experience every time. What they know is that there’s a group of people similar to themselves (“us”), who are treated as having little value beyond their ability to follow orders passed down from above (by “them”)."

Visit Slow Leadership's blog for more diagrams like the one above and for the full article on building trust.

Does this reflect your job environment?

If so, this may explain your lack of energy to do the things that matter to you at the end of the day.

What can you do to improve your work conditions?

You owe it to yourself to work in a place where you are valued.

I can help you as a coach explore your options and come up with a plan that
will lighten your load and give your life back.

Contact me at my website: http://www.partnersinpurpose.com

I look forward to working with you and restoring your joy and inner peace.

Study Reveals New Untapped Career Goldmind!

Move Over Miss Cleo....
There's a New Kid in Town!

Intuitive mind-Reading Babies

Okay, so you might have to do a little bit of experimenting before quitting your day job.
But believe it or not ...

Luca Surian, a psychologist at the University of Trento in Italy, and his colleagues believe they have made some progress in the debate (of intuitive children). In a study published in a recent issue of Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, Surian found that 13-month-old infants were able to exhibit the ability to attribute mental content (mind reading).

Oh, before you get too excited and get little johnny every toy he's every imagined, let's look at
how the psychologists conducted the study and how they reached their results.

Surian's group designed an experiment using animated caterpillars - caterpillars were given a piece of food behind a screen, either some cheese or an apple to munch into - with or without a human hand to cue a specific food type. The team discovered when a human hand was present, and the little animated caterpillar went to the opposite food source, the babies 'looking time' increased significantly - almost 3 fold.

Wait a minute.

Three fold.

There's got to be a mistake here.

Not two but three fold!

So there you have it.

Destiny Doctor Prescription: If this dashed your hope for inner peace from the day job that's robbing your peace.

No need to despair.

Will the Real Slim Shady Please Stand Up?

May I have your attention please?
May I have your attention please?
Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
I repeat, will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
We're gonna have a problem here..

Here's the Problem.....

The Courage to Take off your Mask and Be Real!

When you look at your life,

Can you say with absolute confidence that you are living true to yourself?

Think about it...

Have you ever had a time where you wanted to be home with your family but
you stayed late at work because your manager says he can always depend on you?

This situation isn't wrong in itself.

It's the consistency of the outside behavior when it counters your inner self.
That's the problem.

This lack of self-honesty causes instability in every area of your life.

Self-esteem becomes a wide-ranging term for it is intimately connected with our relationship with our selves. That relationship determines everything about our lives. Every problem that we have—relationships, health, money or work—is ultimately caused by inadequate self-esteem. Branden, in fact, describes it as the one common denominator in all neurotic problems. He sees them either as direct expression of or a defense against inadequate self-esteem. Yet the subject has not received the kind of attention that it deserves. Unless our self-esteem plummets to the extent that we can no longer handle our lives effectively, we are content to leave it alone. The reason is that few of us are really conscious of its wide-ranging impact on our lives. Click the link below to read the rest of this powerful article from

Self-esteem, the importance of building up your self worth

What can you do today to increase your self esteem in one area of your life?

Got Character? It Does a Body Good!

....... Pass it on!

There is one thing that people of great historical significance have in common:

Commitment to Cultivating their Character.

Character is the quality that speaks behind your words.

Personality can attract you, but only character inspires greatness.

Are you living the character you profess to want?

Or is it rhetoric that sounds good to the ear, but slips away when the spotlight is out
and the crowds are gone.

Here's Your Destiny Doctor Prescription:

Create an atmosphere of Inner Peace

Think of the qualities you admire in other people and know that
the qualities you admire in others are the hidden aspects of you that
are waiting to come out.

Everyday start to cultivate that quality in your own unique way.

Take a page out of Benjamin Franklin's book and make a plan. Let his list of
virtues be inspiration for you.

Benjamin Franklin "Character in Action"

Virtues

Franklin sought to cultivate his character by a plan of thirteen virtues, which he developed at age 20 (in 1726) and continued to practice in some form for the rest of his life. His autobiography lists his thirteen virtues as:

  1. "TEMPERANCE. Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation."
  2. "SILENCE. Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation."
  3. "ORDER. Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time."
  4. "RESOLUTION. Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve."
  5. "FRUGALITY. Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing."
  6. "INDUSTRY. Lose no time; be always employ'd in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions."
  7. "SINCERITY. Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly."
  8. "JUSTICE. Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty."
  9. "MODERATION. Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve."
  10. "CLEANLINESS. Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, cloaths, or habitation."
  11. "TRANQUILLITY. Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable."
  12. "CHASTITY. Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation."
  13. "HUMILITY. Imitate Jesus and Socrates."

Kicking the Habit of Failure

" ...modern psychology tells us that when we start something and do not complete it, or make a resolution and do not keep it, we are forming the habit of failure; absolute, ignominious failure. If you do not intend to do a thing, do not start; if you do start, see it through even if the heavens fall; if you make up your mind to do something, do it; let nothing, no one, interfere; the "I" in you has determined, the thing is settled; the die is cast, there is no longer any argument. "

From the The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel

Rumor has it that Bill Gates read this book and applied the truths to his life. I think we can say that he didn't do too bad for himself.

Habit is what we automatically do, without deliberation. Unproductive Habit follows the well-worn path of least resistance. It thrives on complacency. Habits are broken only through determined, willful action or by external disruption.

What habits are keeping you from success?

Are you ready to kick the habit today?

Here's your Destiny Doctor Prescription:

Clarify the vision for your life. ( Your vision, not what society tells you.)
Your vision will give you the juice to "want" to break your unproductive habits.

Take one step toward your vision. Instead of building the habit of failure you'll
start to build the habit of success.

Wash,rinse,repeat daily!

That's the key.

Consistency with sheer determination.

When you take the universe seriously the Universe will take you seriously.

Let me know how it works for you.

Let's build a community of success and inner peace at this blog and set the example.

Until next time...

Your Destiny Doctor,
Dr. Mike Davison
